Description:

2010 sees the launch of a brand new Porsche Boxster, the Spyder. This brand new, lightweight, mid engined vehicle was first revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show in December, and the open roofed aesthetic provided a stunning spectacle to gathered crowds. This new Porsche Boxster Spyder weighs in at just 1,275 kg making it the lightest vehicle in the companies line-up, and the new Boxster Spyder epitomises the Porsche philosophy of lightweight, powerful vehicles that are both efficient and fun to drive.

The Porsche Boxster Spyder expands the current range of Boxsters to three, and it sits somewhat apart from the standard and S models of the vehicle as it was designed from the outset to be driven in the open air and enjoyed at every opportunity. The Porsche Boxster Spyder utilises a folding soft top that extends to the rear of the vehicle in a manner that makes the car look somewhat like the Carrera GT. The striking bulges on the rear lid and low side windows make this new Porsche Boxster Spyder a truly unique vehicle that is both stunning to behold and a joy to drive.

With total weight reductions weighing in at almost 80 kg less than the Boxster S, the Spyder has a lower centre of gravity and this, when coupled with the new Porsche revised suspension give the car handling that are just as sharp and crisp as its looks. The standard 3.4 litre flat six boxer engine has been tweaked and tuned to produce 320 bhp (up from 310 bhp in the standard S) and a number of extras are now included as standard such as the twin clutch PDK gearbox and launch control.

The Porsche Boxster Spyder will accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds, and fuel consumption (combined) is just 30.4 mpg. With the roof down the Porsche Boxster Spyder can still reach a staggering 166 mph, and it is priced at launch (February 2010) at £44,643 in the UK. Included in this price is a chance to hone your skills at the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone on a driving experience programme.
