Porsche 911 vs Boxster

It’s a choice which all Porsche buyers struggle to make; the Boxster, or the 911? With both having such distinctive and sleek designs, it’s a difficult task to pick faults in either.

With both undergoing continual enhancement, these popular Porsche models always manage to look fresh and innovative, whilst still retaining their fundamental and distinguished design. So let’s take a look at both models a little more closely, and discover what it is that sets them apart.

Porsche launched the first generation of the Boxster in 1996, with a 2.5 litre flat six-cylinder engine which delivered increased levels of power. Its shape is unmistakeable with its unique headlight design, and smooth, flawless curves which help the wind flow over it as it glides through its journey.

This presence is further accentuated by the striking wheel design, with 17-inch wheels as standard. With a deep boot at the rear and a shallower boot space to the front, the Boxster is the epitome of function blended with design.

And it doesn’t disappoint in performance either, with tops of 320hp and a highly responsive chassis, the Boxster is the perfect excuse for a weekend in the country; winding round scenic bends with ease and agility.

So what can the 911 offer? Well, how does 620hp and a top speed of 205mph sound? With a rapid throttle response and immediate acceleration, the Porsche 911 lives up to its sporty look and racing wheel design.

Feeling much more spacious than the Boxster, the 911 exudes comfort and capacity, but doesn’t leave much room for practicality. Fitted as standard with bi-xenon headlights, the 911 has an individual design which is sure to turn a few heads.

Whether a deal-breaker for you or not, price does of course affect the desirability of the car. This is where the Boxster becomes much more appealing; beginning at a price of £36,572, it makes treating yourself seem all that more tempting. On the other hand, a standard 911 will set you back £67,270, and because of its high power and carbon dioxide emissions, you’ll be looking at a hefty motor insurance bill.

So it all comes down to what you want the car for; an everyday luxury, or a weekend treat. Radiating extravagance, the 911 gives you speed, excitement, and pure enjoyment. Equally as popular, the Boxster combines practicality with luxury, leaving an envious trail of onlookers everywhere it goes.

With its ability to replace your everyday car, instead of being a rather expensive addition to your driveway; the Boxster seems to seal the deal for most. Striking the perfect balance between functionality and pure indulgence, the Boxster isn’t an accessory; it’s a necessity.
